We're passionate about supporting our community through education and awareness. We offer free public presentations, such as our popular "Is My Kid Dyslexic? How to Know and What to Do" seminar. These events help raise awareness and answer common questions about dyslexia, benefiting parents and educators alike. We've been privileged to be hosted by libraries in Adamstown, Ephrata, Lititz, Lancaster, and Manheim Township.
Beyond our presentations, we also enjoy visiting library preschool programs. These informal visits allow us to chat directly with parents about the importance of early screening for reading difficulties.
Are you a library interested in hosting one of our free educational sessions? Please contact us!
We offer a variety of informative presentations designed to educate and support our community. Our popular topics include:
Is My Kid Dyslexic? How to Know and What to Do
Why You Care About Phonemic Awareness
The D Word – Why All the Controversy
MicroSchooling – A New Educational Trend
Virtual Tutoring – Is It Successful?
The Importance of Read Alouds for the Dyslexic Student
Speech Disorders and Dyslexia
In addition to our public presentations, our expertise is also shared at professional conferences. LRS recently presented two sessions at the "Demystifying Dyslexia" conference held at Millersville University in February 2020.
We believe that speaking directly with teachers is one of the most effective ways to raise awareness and provide actionable insights about dyslexia. Teachers are on the front lines, and any of our conference talks can be modified to suit the specific needs of education professionals.
We have a special interest in preschool education, as early indicators for dyslexia can be identified in children as young as four years old. We offer preschool screening services that can effectively predict a child's reading level in both 3rd and 8th grade. For example, Willow Street UCC Preschool has partnered with us for both student screenings and a parent presentation on phonemic awareness.
If you are interested in scheduling a teacher presentation or a student screening, please contact us!
Dyslexia can present in ways that first lead families to consult with physicians, speech-language pathologists, or psychologists. We understand the critical need for these professionals to have a working knowledge of dyslexia and awareness of local resources for effective support and remediation.
Primary care physicians, in particular, are uniquely positioned to integrate screening for reading difficulties into their well-child care. We can offer guidance on incorporating efficient screening practices into a busy office schedule, or even facilitate in-office screening events.
We're also prepared to adapt our presentations to suit the specific needs and interests of various professional specialties. Our goal is to equip allied health and medical practitioners with the knowledge and tools to better identify and support individuals with dyslexia.
For more information on how we can partner with your practice or organization, please contact us. Our recent collaborators include the J. Cormack Therapy Group.
